Brisbane Lions Coach Michael Voss has stopped marginally short of sacking young Lions forward Rhan Hooper, opting instead to impose the maximum financial penalty of forty thousand dollars.
The wayward youngster is in strife after skipping training in December for which he was slapped with a twenty eight day suspension.
While on suspension, any player is expected to maintain the acceptable level of fitness shown by the rest of the team but in Hooper’s case he failed to do so.

His sprint tests, skin fold tests and beep tests failed to meet the minimum requirements expected of players at the Brisbane Lions and subsequently Voss stepped in to make an example of him.
This isn’t the first time the twenty one year old Hooper has come under the microscope for contrary conduct.
In January 2005 he was also fined the fairly decent sum of seven thousand dollars after he walked out on the club due to personal problems and his inability to contend with the rigours of pre season training.
Coach Voss was under no delusions as to the importance of correcting the small forward who is an integral part of the Lions up front potency in 2009.
Rather than simply tear up his contract, which was an option the Lions seriously considered, Voss felt it was better to impose a hefty fine.
He also thought it was of paramount importance to make an example of Hooper, who despite his lack of discipline, still has much to offer a club that is in the early phases of a major rebuild after the Voss’ own glory days of the early 2000s.

sportingbet.com.au hails itself as Australian’s largest bookmaker, and is based and licensed in the Northern Territory. What differs Sportingbet from other online sites is that not only it offers a telephone betting service, it also allows registered members to use the same account interchangeably over the different mediums available.

Payment options are standard and widely accepted standards, including Visa, Mastercard, Bpay, POLi and Paypal. That said, members can also choose to transfer funds using cheques, bank deposits or telegraphic transfer, which leaves members no excuse for not being able to have money in their account for some added fun to their favourite sport.
The number of events that members can be on is one of the most extensive in the market. The events are not only worldwide, but include others that non-sports fan will find interesting such as the Australian Federal Election and Queensland State Election. That said, you also have the option of putting your money on your favourite Miss World 2008 candidate, or your favourite actor/actress in the 81st Academy Awards.
All these events other than the mainstream sporting events qualify for the $100 free bet sign-up bonus for new sign-ups. There are also a huge range of products that punters can choose from, including but not limited to Parlay bet types and Multi bet types.
Other things that one may find of assistance is a toll-free 1800 number, a 24/7 help desk, and should you not have a phone on person, a ‘live’ chat room that you can access for any enquiries that you may have. And naturally, in this age and space, you are also able to access Sportingbet on a mobile phone version that is scaled down to suit mobile phone browsers and the true blue road warriors.

The best thing I like about Centrebet.com.au is its "next 6 sports" section that allows you to see the next events that are coming up within the next couple of hours. This probably will allow any hardcore punters out there to put their money on a soon happening event.
Another particularly useful feature of Centrebet is its language selector. Although it doesn’t have Mandarin on its selection list, it still beats other online websites that doesn’t offer anything else but English. In any case, you are able to get Centrebet on German, Polish, Italian and Spanish among others.

Centrebet is old and big. It is Australian first licensed bookmaker and is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX), and this probably gives punters an ease of mind when putting their money into betting accounts. Payments options are common and plentiful, including but not limited to credit cards, bank transfers, PayPal and Bpay.
Other than being a predominantly Australian sports betting website, punters also have the option of accessing other sister sites, which includes an online casino (www.centrebetcasino.com) should you not have any interest in the offerings or the odds offered.
The website is largely divided into sports and racing, although interestingly, the entertainment section is under the sports section. The events offered for betting are varied and international, which you will find no lack of events to put your money on. The racing section is exceptionally well covered and well organised, and as the sports section, also offers live updates of the next upcoming races.

www.iasbet.com.au first come across like a big advertising banner, with 4 large banners splashed on its main page. Other than that, the website is well organised into different categories; Racing, Soccer and Sports.

Iasbet, like Centerbet, is also listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, which as a listed company, provides a sense of security of punters who have to put their money into the hands of the bookmaker.
Iasbet prides itself as the leader in Thoroughbred Wagering, and offers an incredible racing product that gives betters a full price service with a choice of fixed price products that gives fantastic value for punters.
Although the website doesn’t offer other language viewing, its toll free helpdesk does have foreign language speaking operators, including Asian languages, which are helpful, given the large population of Chinese in Australia and their propensity to bet on soccer and horse racing.
Other than that, it also offers a "live help" feature on its website that allows you to correspond via internet chat with an operator, which is immensely useful given you do not have access to a telephone.
A key differentiating factor for Iasbet is that it doesn’t charge any fees on most transactions. Almost like a bank, you have the freedom and flexibility of depositing and withdrawing funds at your discretion at no charge. That said, there is a minimum deposit and withdrawal amount that is applicable, depending on your choice of method. The methods offered are extensive and widely accepted, including and not limited to credit cards, POLi, neteller, Bpay, bank transfers and cheques.

www.iasbet.com.au – Japan’s Gamba Osaka won the game deservedly over Adelaide United with a 3-0 victory and bringing Gamba the trophy for the Asian Championship League. The Gamba put up a spectacular performance against Adelaide and had the ball most of the time in the first 45 minutes of the game. Adelaide could only look on as they try to fight their way in. This could not have motivated the Aussies as they need a four goal lead to secure the championship.

This is Gamba’s first Asian club victory, and it was made sweeter when it’s midfielder Yasuhito Endo was crowned player of the ACL
The first stunner came in only 4 minutes after the whistle blow, where a long range shot by Hayato passed through the Aussie’s defense, to be saved by Adelaide teenage goal keeper only to lose it on the rebound.
Although lacking the technical finesse of the Japanese, the Reds clearly put up a good fight, and you could hear the crowd gasp as Kristian Starkies failed to match a cross from Travis Dodd at 51 minutes into the game.
To quote Adelaide’s skipper Travis Dodd, “They found space, their movement off the ball was unbelievable and they are easily the best team we have played on this competition”
But all is not lost. Adelaide still qualified for next month’s match for Club World Cup in Japan and will meet New Zealand’s Waitekere United, and if they win that, they will once again meet Gamba in the next round. This time, we will be able to see European football giant, Manchester United.
