The much missed Lions captain Jonathan Brown is likely to have his first game in 2009 in the NAB Challenge match against Melbourne at Cairns. The 27 year old has been out of the scene for some time after his hip injury.

Injured mid fielder said that his captain is looking good and has been out with the main group for the last three weeks and is getting the spring in his foot back, which is really motivating for the rest of the team, given that the Lions has its fair share of injuries.

Now, that realization is going to come true. Brown is set to play the full game against after his half match appearance with Melbourne in the NAB Challenge played in Cairns.

You can place all your AFL bets on sportingbet.com.au.

Against the Demons, the Lions could only score 4 goals and lost the game by 37 points in a rainy game at Cazaly stadium. This embarrassing loss is probably due to the lack of time spent in games and training by the Lions’ key players in recent weeks. That said, the forwards have started to get their game together, which is evident in the game against St Kilda, where St Kilda conceded a few goals.

The once strong Lions has been held back by numerous injuries, but with key players like Ashley McGrath, Tim Notting and Justin Sherman off the bench, the Lions should have its mane back in time for the game against Richmond.

Sportingbet – Can the Brisbane Loins Bounce Back in the AFL

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Tuesday Apr 21st, 2009

The Brisbane Lions have suffered another defeat in the 2009 AFL Premiership season seeing them slide out of the top eight and showing Michael Voss that coaching a team in the AFL isn’t always going to be a barrel of laughs.

To place your bet on sportingbet.com.au click here!

The Lions went down in a tight encounter to the old foes in Collingwood after leading for the majority of the game.

Poor ball control and a distinct lack of discipline in certain areas kept Collingwood out of the game until some slick work through the middle saw them kick away in the final term and run out victors by seventeen points.

Michael Voss would be left wondering what happened after his charges let a golden opportunity slip to go to three wins from four starts and cement a place in the top eight early on in the season.

However it wasn’t to be and Voss will now realise that although coaching an AFL side has its perks, it is no doubt still one of the toughest jobs in the country.

Brisbane has a rather young line up but still has the experience necessary despite having very few of the players left that carried them to three straight premierships and the title as one of the greatest teams in the modern game’s history.

Voss has continued a bit of a trend in the AFL of employing young coaches though is clearly the youngest in the competition and by far the least experienced and you can place your bet on Sportingbet.

The Lions will have to rely more heavily on their leadership team if they are to be any hope of making the eight come September.

Centrebet.com.au – AFL Final 2009.

After only four rounds a clear red hot favourite is immerging for the 2009 Australian Rules Football finals race.

The Geelong Cats have looked seemingly invincible this year and there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that they have fully recovered from their Premiership loss to Hawthorn last year.

Hawthorn on the other hand appear to be suffering from a premiership hangover and have slumped to just one win from four start and sit well outside the eight leaving club Chief Executive Jeff Kennett with egg on his face and Hawthorn supporters around the nation asking ‘where is this dynasty Jeff promised?’

St Kilda could be the dark horse this year and sit at the top of the table, also having managed four wins from four starts albeit not against the greatest quality of opposition.

Another team that were given a more than fair chance of giving the premiership flag a nudge are the Western Bulldogs but after suffering an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the West Coast Eagle yesterday, their premiership claims are on shaky ground.

Collingwood were also heavily favoured to make the top four this year but after mixed results still look a good chance to make the top eight and always display a tendency to rev up towards the end of the season and give their fans something to sing about.

There are another handful of teams on centrebet.com.au who will be in it just to make up the numbers come finals time but you’d be crazy not to have a cheeky punt on either Geelong or St Kilda to take the flag from this far out.

Sportingbet.com.au – The Golden Slipper was not without its fair share of action on Saturday after twenty six dollar chance Phelan Ready stormed home to take an emphatic victory in the three and a half million dollar race.

A bloodied trainer Bruce McLachlan and wounded jockey Brad Rawiller together celebrated what will no doubt be one of the most famous victories in the world’s richest race for two year olds.

In an upset victory by a the last horse to make it into the field after prize money from Magic Millions was ruled not to count, Phelan Ready stormed home after drawing the outside barrier and sitting in dead last for the majority of the race.

Even coming into the straight Phelan Ready was given little chance as victory as the other highly favoured chances scooted away.

However, Rawiller threaded the needle to take the Slipper by two and a quarter lengths to second placed Headway (also at twenty six dollars) and Manhattan Rain (eight dollars) a short half head for third.

McLahclan smashed his mouth on the enclosure gate when wild celebrations erupted following the two year olds famous victory and Rawiller revealed that he almost didn’t ride after he was left suffering the effects of a serious knee injury leading into the race.

History was onside with Phelan Ready as it was sired by 2008 winner More Than Ready who has also sired the winners of the past two Magic Millions and Golden Slippers.

Phelan Ready became just the second horse ever to grab the Magic Millions and Golden Slipper double.

IASbet.com.au – Just when it looked like this year’s Australian Football League competition would be a carbon copy of last years, a round of upsets, thrillers and hard fought encounters has the tipsters scratching their heads, and fans who thought their clubs were dead and buried on the edge of their seats.

Richmond was the biggest surprise packet of the round as they headed to skilled stadium minus Ben Cousins and on the verge of a club melt down.

Everyone expected the Cats to make an absolute meal of the Tigers, but to their credit, they fought hard to hang on and only go down narrowly by four points when the final siren went.  You can check out all the latest results and bets on IASbet.com.au.

Current Premiers Hawthorn were expected to give the struggling Swans a lesson in premiership football but were sent home empty handed as the Swans posted one of the highest scores in recent memory to take an emphatic victory.

Fremantle continued to disappoint fans as they struggled against an under strength Essendon side who are desperate to show loyal fans they are as good a chance as any team of making the top eight.

Collingwood looked to make amends for a dismal display against Adelaide last week when they took on cellar dwellers the Melbourne Demons for a thirty seven point victory.

The round wound down with a bruising thriller in wet conditions at the MCG on Sunday afternoon as the Western Bulldogs narrowly accounted for a disappointing North Melbourne side who offered no excuses following their second straight loss.

Centrebet.com.au – Australian Cricket

Centrebet.com.au – Australia produced its worst one day international cricket score since the nineteenth seventies as South Africa levelled the one day series at Centurion Stadium yesterday.

To place your bet at Centrebet.com.au click here!

Ricky Ponting has shouldered the majority of the blame claiming that an international one day hundred is long overdue for the Australian Captain.

His top order batsmen slumped to 2 / 11 following the Captain’s dismissal and never looked like troubling the dynamic South African duo of Wayne Parnell and Dale Steyne he took eight wickets between them for a combined total of just 52.

Newcomer and all rounder Callum Ferguson showed why he was selected in the team combining with super star Mitchell Johnson to reach a half century in just his second match.

Check out Centrebet.com.au for all your cricket bets.

Johnson, who has been a beacon of light in recent darker times for Australia put on another impressive batting display before being dismissed for thirty.

It was Australia’s inexperienced bowlers that had a question mark over them at the beginning of the South African tour but the batsmen (with the exception of test debutant Phillip Hughes) are the real under achievers thus far.

With such a miserly total to chase down, the South African top order wasted no time, opting to demoralise the Australian side rather than chip away for a comfortable victory.

The proteas lost just three wickets in a run chase that showed plenty of dash and had them comfortably at the total in a meagre twenty four overs.

Ponting has promised that his batsmen will be back to their best as they tackle the third test in Cape Town tomorrow.
