Sportingbet.com.au – Just a week after the National Rugby League sank further into disrepute following an alcohol fuelled scuffle in an a Western Sydney car park between three team mates, the AFL has come under scrutiny after all Australian and Adelaide Crow Nathan Bock was stood down indefinitely following the alleged assault of his girlfriend at and Adelaide hotel.

Despite the incident, Adelaide Crows officials were quick to state that they would not follow the NRL in imposing complete drinking bans on their players throughout the week or immediately following games.
Officials stated it was far more important to implement continued and consistent education of players regarding alcohol consumption rather than frustrate them with bans.
It is no secret that alcohol is ingrained in sporting culture and the latest scandal comes on the back of the AFL openly launching a campaign to clean up not only the image of the AFL regarding alcohol, but the image of sport in general and its ongoing affiliation with alcohol abuse.
It is alleged that Bock physically assaulted his girlfriend Carlie Matthews before damaging her handbag outside the General Havelock Hotel.
Bock took to the airwaves last night in a press conference set up so that he could first and foremost apologise to his victim and allow the club some attempt at damage control.
Bock was fined five thousand dollars by the Crows and stood down indefinitely until they are satisfied that he has met specific behavioural criteria.
Prior to the 2007 finals campaign, the Crows attempted to impose a curfew on players that backfired after three players were stood down for breaking it, all three of which later moved to new clubs.

IASbet.com.au – After just one round of the Australian Football League it looked as if the 2009 Premiership season would be a near carbon copy of the 2008 season.

However two rounds on the competition has been given a real shake up with teams expected to flounder turning out solid performances while some of the league ‘big guns’ had relative shockers – throwing the race for September wide open.
No doubt the ‘experts’ have revised their tope eight predictions after just three rounds though there would still be some teams considered definite chances for the final series.
Geelong has shown why the are still considered red hot favourites despite losing to Hawthorn in last year’s Grand Final with two convincing wins and a narrow defeat of the struggling Richmond Tigers.
Hawthorn appear to be nursing a premiership hangover and have failed to give punters any real reason to get excited about the ‘dynasty’ that Chief Executive Jeff Kennet promised.
The Bulldogs look on track to set up a long history of finals appearances with the return of Brownlow Medalist Adam Cooney adding a bit of spice through the middle. Why not bet on AFL now!
Widely regarded as a top four certainty, Collingwood have looked nothing more than schoolboys and have one win in three starts – and that was against last year’s wooden spooners Melbourne.
St Kilda will need to sustain a fit lineup to give the eight a nudge but there is no doubt they have the quality to do so and may even shake up the top four.
True to the hype Carlton have jumped out of the blocks to sit atop the table and are firming as dead certainties to make the eight in every punters book.

More often than not it is an answer that requires deep thought and an unbiased and objective opinion – two qualities that are extremely rare in an AFL fans repertoire.
However one thing about supporting the AFL is the ability to recognize raw talent, skill and heart regardless of the colour of the jumper worn by the player and thus it is this that enable even the most one eyed of supporters to attempt to compile this list. Now you can place bets at Centrebet.com.au for your favorite team.
At fullback Adelaide’s Nathan Bock (despite recent off field dramas) is hard to go past along with the fickle Heath Shaw in terms of being hard at the ball, Hawthorns Campbell Brown and Richmond stalwart Joel Bowden for sheer running capacity.
Geelong have the market cornered across half back as well as through the middle and Joel Corey, Gary Ablett and Cameron Ling all deserve honourable mentions.
Copeland trophy winner Dane Swan is one of the hardest runners in the game and weight of numbers is on his side.
Other ball magnets include Hawthorn’s Chance Bateman and hard man Luke Hodge who together with St Kilda’s Nick Dal Santo and Leigh Montagna and Carlton’s Chris Judd would be a formidable running combination.
Dean Cox has proven him self as a sensational ruckman year in and year out and has a premiership medallion to prove it.
Definite inclusions in the forward line would be Lance Franklin, Carlton’s Brendan Fevola, Adelaide’s Andrew McLeod as well as Jonathon Brown and newcomer John Anthony.
